Privacy policy
Effective date: 5 November 2026
Takehouse makes music on your own computer. Your songs, lyrics and settings stay there. This policy explains the few things that can leave your PC, and when.
Who we are
Takehouse is made by Gain Publications ("we", "us"). This policy covers every edition of the Takehouse app for Windows and this website, takehouse.net.
What stays on your PC
- Your songs: lyrics, styles, plans, every take and version, and your notes, saved in your songs folder (Music\Takehouse unless you choose another). Exports go where you save them. If your songs folder is inside OneDrive or another synced folder, that service uploads it; Takehouse warns you when it is.
- Your settings, and logs of the music engine, in Takehouse's own data folder.
- Your keys for online lyrics services, in Windows Credential Manager. Takehouse never writes them into its files or logs.
The AI models that plan, play and sing your songs run on your own graphics card. Gain Publications has no server that receives your songs, lyrics or settings, and Takehouse never sends them to us.
No accounts, no tracking
Takehouse has no account or sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no advertising. We don't collect your name, email address, device identifiers or location through the app.
What can leave your PC, and when
Takehouse itself connects to nothing when it starts (Microsoft's WebView2, listed below, makes its own connections to Microsoft). Takehouse connects to the internet only when you choose to do one of the things below. Each is listed with what it sends and to whom.
Writing or tidying lyrics with an online service
Takehouse can write lyrics, or tidy a pasted lyric sheet, with an online AI service. This is optional, and you choose the service: you add your own key for it in Settings › AI services & keys. Takehouse lists well-known services, and you can add any other compatible service yourself.
- When you press Write (or Tidy, or Write lines in Extend), Takehouse sends that service what the request needs: your idea, any reference text you added, the style, the language, any lines you asked it to build on, the sheet you asked it to tidy, or (for Write lines) the song's lyrics so far, and Takehouse's instructions for writing lyrics. The lyrics come back to your PC.
- When you open the lyrics writer, or test a key, Takehouse asks the service for its list of models, using your key. Nothing about your song is sent for that.
- Your key goes only to the service it belongs to, over an encrypted (https) connection.
- The service handles what it receives under its own privacy policy and terms, which you accepted when you made your account with it. Read them before you use it.
If you don't add a key, nothing is ever sent to a lyrics service. If you choose a local lyrics model instead, it runs on your PC and nothing is sent.
Model downloads
Where your edition offers downloads (for example the optional local lyrics models and their add-ons), Takehouse downloads the files you ask for from dl.takehouse.net, which is served by Cloudflare. If that address can't be reached, it may use the same file's published copy on Hugging Face (huggingface.co) instead. Every file is checked against a signed list before it is used.
A download request contains the name of the file. Like any web server, the server sees your IP address and the time of the request. Takehouse adds no account, identifier or information about your songs.
The model list
Takehouse reads the current list of downloadable models (a small signed file) from dl.takehouse.net only when you open a screen that downloads something (the model manager, Settings › AI services & keys for the local lyrics models, View › Themes, Write lyrics or Tidy when no lyrics writer is set up yet, or Tidy when it needs its add-on) or press Check for updates: at most once per session, unless you check again. The screen says so while it checks. This request sends nothing about you or your songs; as with downloads, Cloudflare sees your IP address and the time. If it can't connect, Takehouse uses its last copy and works as normal. It never reads the list when it starts.
Microsoft
- The Microsoft Store handles buying, installing and updating Takehouse under Microsoft's own terms and privacy statement. We don't receive your payment details.
- Microsoft Edge WebView2, which draws Takehouse's window, contacts Microsoft by itself (for example edge.microsoft.com, for its own components and settings), including while Takehouse starts, under Microsoft's privacy statement. Takehouse gives it nothing to send: it doesn't see your songs, lyrics or keys.
Links and email
Links in Takehouse (for example a service's "get a key" page, or this website) open in your web browser. Report AI content opens your own email program with a message to us, filled in with the song's title, the take, its date, the model names, the seeds and the Takehouse version. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself, and no audio is attached.
If you email us
When you write to support@gainpublications.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to answer you. We don't add it to a mailing list or share it.
This website
takehouse.net sets no cookies and has no analytics, no scripts and no third-party content. Its fonts and pictures are served from the site itself. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes the requests your browser makes, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy.
Removing your data
Your songs are files in your songs folder: delete them there. Uninstalling Takehouse removes its data folder (settings, logs and downloaded models). It doesn't remove your songs or exports. Keys stay in Windows Credential Manager until you remove them in Settings › AI services & keys (before uninstalling) or in Windows' Credential Manager.
Children
Takehouse is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone through it. Online AI services set their own age requirements in their terms.
Changes to this policy
If what Takehouse does with your data changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
